The path of abundance

Catalan Pyrenees, Spain.

30 September – 4 October, 2020

circle by the emblematic mountain of Pedraforca

A 5-day transformational journey

following the steps of the Cathars

from the Pyrenees to the Sanctuary of Queralt, Spain.

Guided by Gemma Polo

group limited to 12 participants

On this transformative non-religious walk we will be following part of the ancient pilgrimage route “El Cami dels Bons Homes”: the path of the ‘good women’ and ‘good men’, the Cathars who embraced the Catholic religion as a genuine spiritual practice of simplicity, good will and generosity in the 13th century, in contrast to the corrupt and ostentatious Catholic Church of that time.

It is through walking in simplicity and silence that we will intend to embrace the values of this pilgrimage and bring alive our own spirituality in modern times, being one with the elements and connect from our hearts to the loving energy of the symbolic destination of the Madonna of Queralt.

Madonna of Queralt

Abundance comes to us when we do not hold on to anything, when we become humble, open, grateful for this life and everything that we are offered.

A pilgrimage is a beautiful way of entering the realm of the heart by simply taking one step after the other. The majesty and immense beauty of the surroundings are a great help on the way, continuously whispering to us “keep going, keep going…”

We walk along healing and transformative paths

for ourselves, for the earth, and for all beings.

Please see the page about pilgrimages on Gemma’s website to have a better way of tuning into her understanding of what it means to be a pilgrim: https://gemmapolopujol.com/en/pilgrimages/

resting on the way

During this 5-day retreat-journey we will pass through ancient forests, high hills, rivers and waterfalls, powerful cliffs, green spacious meadows, XII century little churches, old castles, picturesque villages, and the sanctuary of Queralt. On the way will also walk around the emblematic mountain of Pedraforca, drawn by many as all embracing mother, guardian, and ever flowing source of abundance and fluidity.

A taste of what we will do:
The essence of this pilgrimage is the practice of walking in itself, as a spiritual and transformative journey. These are some additional elements:

– Wake up with the sunrise.
– Combine walking in silence and resting through the whole day in direct contact with nature.
– Circle sharing, meditative singing, guided connected movement.

– Moments of solitude and integration.

– Sleep in simple and beautiful refuges.

– Share meals cooked for us by local hosts.

Some practicalities:

-We will be walking 4 to 7 hours every day (12-19 Km per day).

-The elevation drop will vary between +100 and +800 meters per day. Please start walking every day including going up hill, if you are thinking of joining!

-No technical knowledge of mountaineering is needed but it is crucial that you are used or able to walk in nature for 4-5 hours and have the strength or confidence to go uphill and downhill.

-We will sleep 3 nights in well-equipped mountain refuges and 1 night in a rural house. Through the whole way we will have the pleasure to meet great hosts with warm hearts!

-We will walk carrying all of our luggage plus the daily picnic. Once you formalize the reservation you will receive a very specific list of things to bring with the aim of walking as light as possible.

-The group will be limited to a minimum of 5 and maximum of 12 participants.
